Petals, planes, Pinoys in full Sakura bloom

Filipinos have long treated cherry blossom season like a designer drop. Miss it and you wait another year.

Yet the latest Spring Readiness Index by Klook suggests the bloom chase is growing more ambitious. The usual roll call of Tokyo and Seoul still draws the crowds, but the itinerary now comes with detours.

Japan remains the leading crush, with 78 percent of Filipino respondents naming it their top spring pick. South Korea follows at 52 percent.

Cherry blossoms continue to drive March and April departures, proving that petals can move planes as efficiently as seat sales. But beyond the postcard views lies a new plot twist. Second cities are enjoying their own glow up.

In Japan, coastal Sennan is edging onto wish lists, while Nagoya feeds both stomach and soul between blossom sightings.

Travelers pause thoughtfully in Hiroshima, breathe deep in cool-climate Sapporo, and happily slurp their way through Fukuoka. Even quieter corners such as Ono and stylish Kobe are seeing a blush of interest.

South Korea tells a similar tale. Beyond Seoul’s bright lights, Filipinos are wandering into Gyeonggi-do and the mountain-framed calm of Gangwon-do. Windswept Jeju offers drama, while ancient Gyeongju layers spring with centuries of story.

Chungcheongnam-do and Jeollabuk-do round out itineraries that feel less checklist and more curated.

Two thirds of respondents are planning multi destination trips, turning gateway cities into launching pads for regional adventures. There are practical worries. Forty seven percent fret about crowding and 41 percent about mistiming peak bloom. Still, seven in 10 intend to book tours within two months of departure, a confident wink to flexibility.

“Spring travel is always a must for Filipinos looking to escape the summer heat and enjoy unique seasonal experiences,” said Michelle Ho of Klook Philippines.

This year’s bloom seekers are not just chasing petals. They are chasing perspective.
