SSS taps EastWest Rural Bank to expand MySSS Card access nationwide

The Social Security System (SSS) has taken a major step toward expanding financial access, tapping EastWest Rural Bank (EWRB) as the first rural bank authorized to issue the MySSS Card—bringing banking services closer to Filipinos in remote and underserved communities.

The initiative is expected to significantly ease the burden on members who previously had to travel long distances to access formal banking services. With EWRB’s nationwide network, more Filipinos can now apply for and use the MySSS Card, which doubles as an official SSS ID and a fully functional debit card.

Through the card, members can securely receive benefits and loan proceeds, make digital payments, and manage their day-to-day finances—marking a push toward faster and more convenient transactions.

Applications will be available at over 100 EWRB branches and select EastWest Bank locations, most of which are strategically located in provincial areas, including parts of the Visayas and Mindanao where banking access remains limited.

In a move aimed at encouraging savings, EWRB announced it will waive maintaining balance requirements for cardholders. Accounts with at least ₱500 will also earn interest.

SSS officials said the program will streamline benefit disbursement, as enrolled accounts will automatically be linked for payouts. The card also features identity verification integrated with the National ID system, helping ensure secure and accurate transactions.

The partnership underscores a shared push by SSS and EWRB to strengthen financial inclusion, particularly among low-income, unbanked, and rural populations.

EWRB reiterated its commitment to bringing essential financial services closer to communities, saying the initiative aligns with its long-standing mission to support inclusive growth and improve financial access across the country.
