Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability, highlighting ongoing solar rooftop installations across its facilities as part of a broader energy efficiency and environmental strategy.
Engineer Ronnie L. Aperocho, Meralco executive vice president and chief operating officer, said that power company’s solar initiatives mirror the growing trend among households and businesses adopting solar technology to use electricity more efficiently.
“Since 2020, under our Resource Conservation & Efficiency Program, we have been installing solar panels in our headquarters, Business Centers, and Sector Offices to reduce operational energy use,” Aperocho said. “We believe that if a technology can help save resources and improve efficiency, we should also practice it ourselves.”
Meralco has recently come under fire after it pushed for stricter regulations on residential and commercial rooftop solar installations, drawing criticism from advocates of renewable energy adoption.
The move forms part of Meralco’s wider sustainability agenda, which aims to promote responsible energy consumption and reduce the company’s carbon footprint. The company also highlighted its solar subsidiary,
MSpectrum, which has supported numerous homes and businesses in transitioning to cleaner, sustainable energy solutions.
Meralco stated that its commitment extends beyond its own facilities. By promoting the adoption of solar energy and other eco-friendly technologies, the company seeks to foster environmental responsibility both internally and across the communities it serves.
