A new water system project has finally brought potable water closer to families in Barangay Butbut Proper, easing the long-standing burden of collecting water from distant sources.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Cordillera (DENR-CAR) completed a P2-million Level II Water Works Project that will benefit 147 households of the Butbut Tribe in Tinglayan, Kalinga.
The project includes an intake tank, filtration tank, main tank, pipelines, and other water system facilities. It was funded through the Water Resources Management Office created under Executive Order No. 22 of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Butbut Community Integrated School was among the first to receive direct access to the new water supply. School officials said the improved system now supports sanitation and daily learning activities after years of limited water access.
Barangay officials said the project will help reduce the burden of water collection, improve health conditions, and give residents more time for education and livelihood activities.
Environment Secretary Juan Miguel Cuna said the initiative reflects the government’s goal of improving water security in remote and underserved communities.
The turnover ceremony was attended by DENR regional and provincial officials together with community leaders and residents.
