SM Retail, the retail arm of the SM Group, has received the NPC Seal of Registration Compliance Excellence Award from the National Privacy Commission (NPC) at the recent National Data Privacy Conference in Parañaque City. The award recognizes organizations that consistently display their NPC registration seal across all operations and digital platforms to demonstrate transparency and accountability.
SM Retail was also named a finalist for Privacy Initiative of the Year for its ongoing employee training programs, which use real-world retail scenarios to make data privacy practical and easy to understand. In addition, the company’s Data Protection Officer Leyson San Juan was shortlisted for Data Protection Officer of the Year for the second year running. These recognitions add to the firm’s previous Privacy Management Program Award, all affirming its commitment to strong data governance as part of corporate responsibility.
SM Retail president Jonathan Ng noted that the awards reflect teamwork across the business and help build and maintain customer trust. The ceremony was held as part of the annual Privacy Awareness Week, which aims to promote responsible handling of personal information nationwide.
