NFA opens P355.4M post-harvest facility in Iloilo

The National Food Authority (NFA) has launched a modern P355.4 million post-harvest facility in Dumangas, Iloilo, to cut grain losses, raise rice buffer stocks, and strengthen national food security. Located in Barangay Monfort South, the site includes a high-capacity warehouse, rice mill, and grain dryer, enabling the agency to buy, process, and store far more unhusked rice or palay than before. Agriculture Secretary and NFA Council chairman Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. noted the project benefits both farmers and consumers by securing steady supplies and stable prices, while NFA chief Larry Lacson said it upgrades services across Western Visayas. Serving a major rice producing hub, the facility will help over 1,000 additional farmers and cover nearby towns that yield nearly 4.9 million bags of palay each year. It is set to more than double local NFA procurement, adding around 324,000 bags over two cropping seasons and lifting the share of crops bought by the state to 10–12 percent.
