SMC clears 116,000 tons of silt, waste in San Juan River maintenance

San Miguel Corporation has removed over 116,000 metric tons of silt and waste from the San Juan River in its ongoing maintenance cleanup, aiming to improve water flow and reduce flooding in San Juan, Manila, Mandaluyong and Quezon Cities. This 10-month work covers 6.1 kilometers of the waterway, following an earlier project that cleared 322,000 tons from 2022 to 2024. The effort is part of SMC’s Better Rivers PH initiative, supporting the government’s flood mitigation drives including Oplan Kontra Baha. SMC also continues cleanup work across other major rivers nationwide, having now cleared a total of 9.3 million tons of debris from over 200 kilometers of waterways in six years.
