SB19 turns global fame into Philippine tourism draw

There was a time when travel brochures did the heavy lifting. Today, a viral music video, a sold-out concert and an army of devoted fans can inspire plane tickets faster than any postcard ever could.

That is precisely the stage the Department of Tourism is stepping onto.

After recruiting BINI, the DOT has now named P-pop powerhouse SB19 as its newest Tourism Ambassador, betting that one of the country’s biggest musical exports can help turn global fandom into actual foot traffic.

It’s a clever strategy. Fans rarely stop at streaming songs anymore. They chase concert venues, café recommendations, filming locations and every place connected to their idols. For many A’TIN, the Philippines is no longer just a dot on the map. It’s the home of the music they’ve embraced.

The timing could hardly be better.

SB19 is preparing for a remarkable global run, becoming the first Filipino act to perform at Chicago’s Lollapalooza Music Festival and the first Filipino group invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch at a Major League Baseball game. The group will also share the stage with fellow tourism ambassadors BINI at Japan’s Summer Sonic 2026, giving Filipino music another international spotlight.

Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay believes the group’s worldwide following stretches far beyond entertainment. Fans from the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia have increasingly traveled to the Philippines for SB19 events, proving that music can be a surprisingly effective travel itinerary.

The DOT even teased the partnership with playful goat emojis and a “Galingbayan” package, putting a modern twist on the beloved balikbayan box.

SB19 welcomed the role enthusiastically, saying they hope to reconnect overseas Filipinos with their roots while introducing international fans to the country’s culture.

It turns out that the hottest passport stamp may no longer come from a travel agency. Sometimes, it begins with a playlist, a fandom and five young men reminding the world that Filipino talent deserves an encore.
