Currency experts from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) recently held a training session for employees of GV Florida Bus Company as part of the “Safe Currency, Safe Commute: Transport Sector Currency Education Campaign”. BSP specialists Jenilyn L. Gagarin and Marc Andrew H. Noscal led the discussion, showing actual samples to explain the differences between real, counterfeit, and unfit or damaged money.
Attendees including the company’s cashiers, conductors, accounting staff, and purchasing personnel learned practical skills to tell genuine bills and coins apart from fakes, identify notes and coins that are too worn or damaged to use, and handle cash correctly. They were also taught about the design details and safety features that prevent forgery for all current Philippine currency series: the New Generation Currency banknotes and coins, the updated NGC banknote line, the country’s first polymer banknotes, the standard BSP coin series, and the special 10-Piso ASEAN commemorative coin.
This marks the first time the BSP’s GMRO office has run a currency education event specifically for the transport industry. More sessions with other transport groups are planned, as part of the central bank’s ongoing work to help the public trust Philippine currency and follow proper practices when handling money.
