The Philippines’ longest-running grassroots football league opened its latest edition on July 26 at the Dynamic Herb-Borromeo Sports Complex in Talisay City, Cebu. Now spanning Cebu, Batangas, Davao and Tarlac, the tournament has nurtured young Filipino players for over 20 years.
This year’s opening focused on the youngest participants in the Players 6 and Players 8 divisions. Sugbu Calidad FC won the Players 8 title, while SHS-AdC Magis Eagles took top honours in Players 6.
Officials from the Philippine Football Federation, Cebu Regional Football Association and AboitizPower led the ceremonial kickoff. AboitizPower Distribution Utilities COO Anton Perdices urged players to compete with courage, discipline and respect.
The league has grown from a local event to a national platform, with a new national champions league launched earlier this year. It also runs a recycling campaign with Coca-Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines. Matches in Cebu will continue until year-end, with more legs set across the other three provinces.
