Park Inn Bacolod turns sustainability into advantage

Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod is making sustainability and community engagement central to its growth strategy, five years after opening at the height of the pandemic. They reflect a broader shift in the hospitality industry, where environmental and social impact increasingly shape guest preferences, corporate partnerships, and long-term competitiveness.

SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC) said the 150-room property has evolved from Bacolod City’s first internationally branded hotel into one of Western Visayas’ leading hospitality hubs, serving both business and leisure travelers while broadening programs that connect commercial success with community development.

The hotel marked its fifth anniversary with a series of activities under the theme “Forging a Lasting Legacy,” underscoring how its sustainability agenda extends beyond hotel operations. A medical mission in Barangay Canlandog, Murcia, conducted with Agora Refuge Center Bacolod, the Philippine Air Force Tactical Operations Group 6, and local government partners, provided residents with free medical consultations, medicines, and haircut services.

SMHCC also recognized the hotel’s employees, known internally as “Moment Makers,” during an anniversary town hall, crediting them for helping the property overcome the challenges of launching during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“A true legacy isn’t built within the walls of a building, but within the hearts of the people who run it,” SMHCC Senior Vice President for Operations Cathy Nepomuceno said. “Our five-year success story was written by the collective passion of every Moment Maker here today.”

The celebration concluded with “Legacy Night,” honoring clients, business partners, media, and sustainability collaborators. The Philippine Air Force was recognized for supporting 19 community outreach projects, while the Negros Economic Development Foundation was cited for helping divert nearly 150,000 kilograms of food waste from landfills. Green Solutions PH was also recognized for converting used cooking oil into more than 3,400 liters of biodiesel donated to coastal communities.

Newly appointed General Manager Ramon Makilan said the hotel will continue building on those partnerships as it enters its next phase of growth, with a focus on showcasing Bacolod’s hospitality while creating lasting value for guests, employees, and the local community.

The anniversary also illustrates how sustainability is becoming a strategic differentiator in the hospitality business, with hotels increasingly competing not only on service and accommodations but also on the measurable impact they create for the communities where they operate.
