Japan and the Philippines have formalized financial assistance worth about 30 billion yen to boost the country’s universal health care efforts and help ease pressures on the health sector brought about by rising tensions in the Middle East.
Japanese Ambassador ENDO Kazuya and Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Maria Theresa P. Lazaro signed the Exchange of Notes for the Build Universal Health Care Program (Emergency Support) today. The loan will help the Philippines develop and refine policies toward universal health care, ensure fair access to quality health services, and strengthen supply chains for medical supplies.
Officials said the program is also designed to support broader economic stability and social progress. With more than 1,600 Japanese companies operating in the country, improving health conditions and helping stabilize public finances is expected to directly benefit Filipino communities while creating a more secure environment for business activities and future investments from Japan.
