The National Power Corporation (NPC) has energized a new 69-kilovolt transmission line and a 5-megavolt amperes substation linking Mogpog and Buenavista in Marinduque, aiming to improve power reliability across the island province. The state firm announced the completion of the P154 million facility in a statement Thursday, noting it marks a major upgrade to the province’s power infrastructure.
The project creates alternative power routes to keep voltage steady and ensure continuous service, while cutting interruptions during routine maintenance work. NPC president Jericho Nograles said the agency will keep building projects that deliver stable power, reduce energy losses, and give the most benefit to consumers. “While bringing power to off-grid areas remains a challenge, we are firmly committed to sustainable progress—developing one community and one island at a time, until no Filipino is left behind,” Nograles added. He stressed that beyond generating electricity, NPC seeks to connect people to opportunities that raise quality of life and drive economic growth.
Buenavista Mayor Eduardo Siena welcomed the development, saying it will speed up planned investments in the area and “is a vital key in unlocking the full potential of our municipality.” Aside from Marinduque, NPC runs transmission networks in Palawan, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Mindoro. It also manages 258 Small Power Utilities Group (SPUG) plants serving 221 remote islands and communities not linked to the main grid, most of which run on diesel. The agency is also responsible for managing watersheds and developing local energy sources.
