BSP summit advances responsible AI adoption

The AI in Financial Services Summit held at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) complex brought together financial regulators, banking leaders, and technology professionals to promote the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence.

With the theme “From Pilot to Practice: AI Adoption in the Philippine Financial Sector,” the event examined how AI can broaden financial access and create opportunities for Filipinos, while addressing practical challenges in wider industry rollouts.

BSP Governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr. noted AI’s ability to unlock benefits for consumers and businesses alike, but emphasized the need for strong governance to manage risks. He stressed that AI should serve to assist, not replace, people. “AI can identify patterns, generate ideas, and help us make sense of complexity. But deciding where we want to go or what outcomes we value most by using AI, that remains our responsibility,” Remolona stated.

BSP Deputy Governor Lyn I. Javier reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to putting proper safeguards in place to protect consumers as AI transforms financial services.

Industry participants shared how AI is already improving customer service, strengthening fraud detection, and raising work efficiency. Discussions also highlighted that high-quality data is key to maximizing AI’s value, supporting better risk management and sounder decision-making.

Also in attendance were Monetary Board Members Romeo L. Bernardo, Rosalia V. De Leon, and Jose L. Querubin, along with Deputy Governors Mamerto E. Tangonan, Elmore O. Capule, and Zeno Ronald R. Abenoja.
