ACS Manufacturing Corp., maker of Pride Detergent, Shield Bath Soap, and Unique Toothpaste, is shifting its two key Laguna manufacturing facilities to 100 percent renewable electricity under a new supply agreement with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES).
The agreement gives ACS access to renewable power from ACEN’s portfolio of solar, wind, and geothermal assets, allowing the manufacturer to source electricity separately from its local distribution utility through the government’s Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) framework.
The deal was also facilitated through the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP), which allows smaller electricity consumers to combine their demand to meet the 100-kilowatt threshold required to participate in the competitive retail electricity market.
For manufacturers, the programs provide greater flexibility in choosing electricity suppliers, negotiating power arrangements, and specifying renewable energy sources.
ACS estimates that switching its Laguna plants to renewable electricity will avoid about 4,270 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions annually, roughly comparable to the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by more than 193,000 trees.
“Our switch to renewable energy for our Laguna plants is a strategic move to align our manufacturing processes with our commitment to the environment,” ACS CEO Mai Supetran said.
The agreement adds to ACEN RES’s growing presence in the country’s retail electricity market. The company has maintained its position as the leading green energy supplier based on the Energy Regulatory Commission’s latest report on the Competitive Retail Electricity Market.
ACEN RES Senior Vice President for Market Transformation and Retail Tony Valdez said the agreement shows how businesses can use RCOA and RAP to change their power sourcing while supporting additional renewable energy development.
The partnership comes as Philippine manufacturers face growing pressure to manage energy costs while meeting corporate sustainability targets. Access to renewable electricity gives companies another lever in managing their energy procurement, particularly as large power users gain more options under the competitive retail market.
ACEN RES also awarded ACS its “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge, a distinction given to facilities using its renewable energy supply.
