A senior official of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has received a prestigious international award for outstanding leadership in advancing inclusive green finance, highlighting the country’s progress toward a more sustainable financial sector.
Rhodora M. Brazil-De Vera, officer-in-charge of the BSP’s Supervisory Policy and Research Department, was presented with the “Technical Leadership Award for Inclusive Green Finance” by the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) during the organization’s Global Financial Inclusion Awards ceremony held in Papua New Guinea on September 3, 2026. This marks the second time she has earned the same distinction, having first won it in 2024.
The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated strong leadership and delivered meaningful contributions to developing and expanding green finance efforts worldwide. Green finance refers to funding that supports projects beneficial to both communities and the environment—such as clean energy facilities, climate-resilient infrastructure, and sustainable agricultural systems.
Brazil-De Vera plays a central role in designing and implementing the BSP’s Sustainable Central Banking Roadmap. This key policy framework is crafted to integrate green finance as a standard practice across the Philippine financial system. It aims to encourage banks and financial institutions to direct more resources toward environmentally responsible and climate-friendly initiatives while ensuring broad access to financial services.
The recognition also signals the BSP’s commitment to aligning the country’s monetary and regulatory policies with sustainability goals. It boosts investor confidence in the Philippine market, showing that regulators are actively building systems to support green investments and climate-resilient business models.
Environmentally, the roadmap and related leadership work help accelerate the flow of capital into projects that reduce carbon emissions, protect natural resources, and strengthen the economy against climate risks. By mainstreaming green finance, the BSP also supports long-term environmental protection and sustainable development across various sectors.
