BSP links MSMEs to more funding sources at forum

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) brought micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) closer to banks and lenders through the MSME Financing Forum held at its main office on September 11, 2026. Jointly organized with the Export Development Council’s Networking Committee on Financing and the Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc., the event gathered regulators, business groups, and fintech firms to address the funding needs of a sector seen as vital to expanding operations, driving innovation, creating jobs, and sustaining overall economic growth.

BSP Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat emphasized that reliable financing allows businesses to maintain daily activities, overcome difficulties, and take advantage of future opportunities. To make credit more accessible, participants discussed practical solutions including supply chain financing and alternative credit assessment methods. These include using the Credit Risk Database Project and digital payment history to evaluate MSME credit standing, alongside designing financial products that better match business requirements and growth stages.

The forum also highlighted the sector’s role in strengthening the export economy. Deputy Governor Zeno Ronald R. Abenoja noted that supporting MSMEs is critical to long-term development, explaining that growing exporters generate employment, attract investments, earn foreign exchange, and help build a more resilient economy. The event reflects the BSP’s continued push to connect MSMEs with formal financial support and align financing strategies with broader corporate and national development goals.
