Lifesaver on Wheels: LG turns over ₱1.6-M ambulance to Laguna upland village

Barangay Galalan in Pangil, Laguna, finally has its own ambulance through LG Electronics Philippines’ “Life Saver on Wheels” project, ending years of relying on makeshift transport for emergencies. The ₱1.6-million vehicle, winner of the 2026 LG Ambassador Challenge, was formally handed over September 22 at LG Philippines’ headquarters.

For decades, residents in this mountain community carried the sick and injured by hand, on motorcycles, or even aboard garbage trucks to reach the nearest hospital roughly 20 kilometers away. In remote Sitio Gisgis, patients were borne in traditional hammock-style duyan along steep trails for up to an hour before reaching any road. Now the ambulance will be stationed at the barangay hall, managed locally under Pastor Ramil B. Repolido, with a driver from the barangay health office and first aid support from the Rural Health Center. A dedicated parking area is being built to speed up every dispatch.

Nakhyun Seong, LG Philippines Managing Director, said the project stood out for its lasting value. Since 2019, the Ambassador Challenge has funded community-led solutions, and this year focused on healthcare, education, and maternal and child welfare. “Emergency response is something a community needs for the long run, and that’s a priority for LG,” Seong said. He noted residents’ own spirit of service deeply moved the team, and hopes the ambulance will serve neighboring communities too. “At the heart of LG is warmth and understanding—this is what we bring, helping people build better care right where they live,” he added.

Repolido, who has served the area for 20 years, called the turnover an answered prayer. “We are very thankful to LG; this is what we have hoped for so long,” he said. Council member Felix Arbol Jr., who helped champion the proposal, confirmed the community stands ready. “We can go to the hospital any time, any day for emergencies—no more worrying how to get there,” Arbol said.

LG will continue prioritizing children, education, and healthcare going forward, making this not a one-time gift but part of sustained support for Filipino communities.
