First Gen completes rooftop solar project for NKC Group’s Cebu unit

First Gen Group has completed and officially switched on a rooftop solar installation at NKC Manufacturing Philippines Corporation—Cebu-based subsidiary of Japan’s NKC Group—just four months after signing the deal, in a bid to secure reliable power amid Visayas supply challenges.

Completed last September, the photovoltaic facility will be operated by First Gen for five years. The agreement also included a full energy audit of the plant and offices to boost efficiency and cut electricity costs.

“Through this, we build energy independence rooted in resilience, sustainability, and harmony with nature—lowering both our carbon footprint and operating expenses,” said NKC Phils. President Norihiko Matsuda during the launch.

First Gen Energy Solutions Vice President Mark Malabanan thanked NKC Phils. for its trust, adding: “We remain committed to supporting their decarbonization goals and smarter energy management.”

Established in 1997, NKC Phils. serves as the Philippine production hub for Nakanishi Metal Works Co., Ltd., a global maker of precision automotive and industrial parts.

First Gen is the Philippines’ top renewable energy producer, operating 31 solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal facilities. It also offers businesses end-to-end energy solutions including on-site solar, remote monitoring, and efficiency audits.
