Easing global oil prices could provide the Philippines with a timely economic tailwind,  strengthening the peso, improving financial conditions and giving the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) greater scope to ease monetary policy, according to Manulife Investment Management.

Manulife Philippines has appointed Manish Sangal as deputy chief executive officer as the insurer strengthens its leadership team and accelerates its digital transformation strategy in the Philippine market.

Manulife has secured approval from the Toronto Stock Exchange for a normal course issuer bid, allowing the insurance company to buy back and cancel up to 42 million of its common shares. Outside Canada and the U.S., Manulife said it may undertake similar buybacks in other markets where it is listed, such as the Philippine Stock Exchange, in compliance with local regulations.

Manulife Financial Corp. has priced a USD1 billion public offering of senior notes at 100 percent of face value, as the global insurer moves to reinforce its funding base and prepare for upcoming refinancing needs.

The equities faced a subdued market in the first quarter of 2025, as a lack of strong positive catalysts kept investor sentiment in check, the head of equities markets at the insurer Manulife said on Friday.
