First Gen secures LNG supply for 4 Batangas power plants

First Gen Corp. said Friday it has concluded the international tender for around 154,500 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas that will fuel four gas-fired power plants in Batangas.

Financial details of the deal weren’t disclosed.

First Gen, the listed power generation company controlled by the Lopez Group, said the contract was awarded to Trafigura Pte Ltd, which is expected to deliver the cargo between 25 November and Christmas day. The LNG will be unloaded into the storage tanks of BW Batangas floating storage and regasification unit now berthed at First Gene Clean Energy Complex in Batangas City.

The four Batangas power plants, with a combined capacity of 2,017 megaWatts, have been supplied for many years with natural gas from the Malampaya field.

First Gen’s unit, FGEN LNG Corp., has constructed its interim offshore LNG terminal and executed a 5- year time charter party for BW Batangas, which will provide LNG storage and regassification services as part of the project.

The FGEN LNG Terminal will accelerate the ability to introduce LNG to the Philippines to serve the natural gas requirements of existing and future gas-fired power plants of third parties and First Gen’s affiliates as well as ensure energy security in the country.
