Manila Electric Co., the country’s largest power distributor, has started the Competitive Selection Process to procure 600 megaWatts of base load supply, slated to commence in 2025.
The Department of Energy recently approved the CSP for acquiring the capacity.
Meralco, as the power distributor is more popularly known, is seeking reliable and cost-effective natural gas-fired plants as per the DOE advisory.
The deadline for expression of interest to bid for the supply contract is on 25 June this year, with the pre-bid conference scheduled for 4 July. The deadline for submission of bids is set for 2 August .
This initiative underscores Meralco’s commitment to ensuring the availability of dependable and competitively priced electricity for its customers.
Meralco serves Metro Manila and nearby provinces that together produce around half of the country’s output measured as the gross domestic product.
Its franchise will lapse in June 2028 but a bill is already pending in Congress for its renewal. Supporters of Meralco said a renewal of its franchise would ensure steady energy supply and would assure investors moving forward.
