Solar developer seeks connection to the Visayas grid via the Tabango substation

The San Isidro Solar Power Corp. (SISPC) is seeking Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) approval to connect to the Visayas grid via the 230 kiloVolt Tabango substation in Leyte.

SISPC is a wholly owned subsidiary of Greenlight Renewables Holding Inc. developing a 280-megawatt peak solar farm in Leyte.

Greenlight Renewables Holding is a joint venture between Nickel Asia Corp.’s Emerging Power Inc. (EPI) and Shell Overseas Investments B.V.

In a document published by the ERC, the cost of the interim connection is estimated at P1.66 billion inclusive of the design and supply of equipment for the substation, switchyard and transmission line.

Costs associated with the construction of the 230-kilovolt RTugas substation and connection equipment require another P852.9 million.

The ERC has set 1 August 2024 as pre-trial conference for this application.

The EPI is also pursuing pilot geothermal projects in Mindoro and Biliran. Once completed, these may be expanded to realize 20 MW in Mindoro and 50 MW in Biliran.

The EPI joint venture with Shell Overseas Investments targets to build a capacity of as much as 1,000 MW by 2028. The goal is to contribute up to 3,000 MW in renewable capacity by rolling out a series of projects in Luzon and the Visayas.

Focus is on utility scale solar farms while also evaluating opportunities in onshore wind and energy storage systems.
