Philippines wins Best Ports of Call 2024 at Asia Cruise Awards

The Philippines clinched the prestigious Best Ports of Call 2024 award at the 10th Asia Cruise Awards in Jeju Island, South Korea, affirming its status as a top cruise tourism destination.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said the accolade reflects stakeholders’ efforts in revitalizing the Philippine cruise industry post-pandemic, supported by the Marcos administration’s tourism focus through the National Tourism Development Plan. “These accolades validate our efforts in positioning our country as a must-visit for cruise enthusiasts,” she said.

The Asia Cruise Forum celebrates industry excellence and promotes Asia’s global cruise competitiveness. The Cruise Visa Waiver program, launched with the Department of Justice and Bureau of Immigration, aims to boost arrivals and enhance tourism by streamlining visa processes to promote convenience and accessibility for cruise tourists.

Officials, including DOJ Assistant Secretary Majken Anika Gran-Ong and BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco, hailed the CVW Program’s potential for economic growth and global connectivity.

The event gathered government agencies, tourism groups, and stakeholders, showcasing united efforts to elevate Philippine cruise tourism.

Anticipating 117 port calls in 2024, the Philippines reinforces its role in global cruise operations, supplying 70,000 crew and hospitality workers worldwide.

Sec. Frasco said the DOT is committed to sustainable tourism and enhancing the country’s cruise tourism appeal.
