    Over 2M hectares of farmland feared ruined by TS Enteng

    The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Tuesday feared the destruction left by Tropical Storm Enteng on 2.18 million hectares (ha) of standing crops, based on local government unit reports as of 31 August 2024.

    The DA’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center said 1.66 million ha are planted to rice while another 513,808 ha are dedicated to corn.

    Of the areas planted to rice, 53 percent or 876,393 ha are in seedling or vegetative stage and another 563,455 ha or 34 percent are still in the so-called reproductive stage. The remaining 13 percent or 223,523 ha represent the mature crop areas.

    As for corn, crops classified under the reproductive stage total 259,098 ha or 51 percent, followed by 150,696 ha or 29 percent of mature crops. The remaining 104,014 ha or 20 percent are areas under the seedling or vegetative stage.
