MacroAsia Corp., the listed aviation services unit of the Lucio Tan Group, said Wednesday its subsidiary Summa Water Resources Inc. broke ground on a desalination facility to be built in Olango Island to address the growing water needs of Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu.
Summa Water is undertaking the water project through its wholly-owned subsidiary, CSWater Lapu-Lapu,Inc. MacroAsia holds its stake in Summa Water through its wholly-owned unit Allied Water Services Inc.
The initial phase of the project involves the construction of a 15 million liters per day desalination plant in Punta Engaño and a 500 cubic meters per day desalination facility on Olango Island. The project is being developed under a joint venture agreement for bulk water supply, signed between the City of Lapu-Lapu and CSWater.
The official notice to proceed was issued by Mayor Junard Chan on 13 May 2024, marking the formal commencement of the sustainable water management project. Financial details of the water project were not disclosed.
