Megaworld announces P15B Ilocandia Coastown project

Megaworld Corp. is broadening its horizons with a new P15-billion, 10-year development of a mixed-use beachfront township in Ilocos Norte.

Called Ilocandia Coastown, the project spans 84 hectares along the western coastline of Laoag City, further enhancing the Megaworld’s expansive portfolio. It is designed to feature upscale residential units, a vibrant shophouse district, and a dynamic commercial center, complete with a town center that will serve as the iconic heart of the development.

The development draws architectural inspiration from Filipino and Spanish heritage to celebrate the region’s rich cultural history.

“This marks a significant beginning for our Group’s investment in the Ilocos Region, especially in Laoag,” said Kevin L. Tan, president and chief executive officer of Alliance Global Group, the parent company of Megaworld. “We see immense opportunities in tourism here, and we aim to unlock these through this development,” he added.

Ilocandia Coastown boasts a 1.4-kilometer beach line, complementing the area’s famous sand dunes. Strategically located adjacent to the renowned Fort Ilocandia Hotel, Ilocandia Coastown is conveniently situated just 15 minutes from Laoag International Airport and less than 30 minutes from the historic Paoay Church.

Recent data from the Philippine Statistics Authority indicate that the Ilocos region is the third fastest-growing economy in the Philippines, trailing only Central and Western Visayas. Furthermore, Laoag City has been recognized as a viable business center by the Department of Information and Communications Technology under its Digital Cities 2025 program, highlighting its potential to drive economic development in the countryside.

Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso, president of Megaworld, expressed enthusiasm for expanding into the Ilocos region. “We are already present in Central and Western Visayas, the two fastest-growing areas in the country. Now, it’s time to establish our presence in Ilocos, completing our footprint in the three most dynamic regions in the Philippines. We are excited to bring our signature township lifestyle to Ilocandia,” she stated.

Ilocandia Coastown will be Megaworld’s 34th township development and its inaugural project in Northern Luzon.
