Airline helping government combat human trafficking as air travel picks up

AirAsia Philippines is strengthening safety measures ahead of the busy holiday travel season in collaboration with the Bureau of Immigration (BOI), the Manila International Airport, and the Philippine National Police (PNP). The initiative focuses on combating human trafficking and ensuring the wellbeing of passengers at the country’s primary travel hubs.

To help tackle the growing threat of human trafficking, AirAsia Philippines has trained hundreds of its Allstars—including ground staff, flight crew, and security personnel—to identify potential trafficking victims. This training aims to enhance the airline’s ability to recognize and assist vulnerable individuals during the busy travel period.

“We are committed to ensuring the comfort and safety of all our guests and crew. Through our partnership with key government authorities and stakeholders, we have implemented robust security and safety management systems designed to protect Filipinos and travelers,” said Steve Dailisan, head of communications and public affairs at AirAsia Philippines.

The collaboration is particularly timely as the Bureau of Immigration reported intercepting approximately 700 potential trafficking victims as of September this year. The holiday season, which sees an increase in travel activity, often presents an opportunity for traffickers to exploit the influx of passengers.

“Traffickers may try to exploit the holiday rush by passing off victims as tourists,” Dailisan warned. “Our highly trained Allstars remain vigilant against such activities and work closely with authorities to ensure a safe and secure travel environment.”

AirAsia’s commitment to combating human trafficking was recently tested in real-time when a potential trafficking case was intercepted, thanks to the airline’s strict safety procedures and close collaboration with the Bureau of Immigration.

As the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline, AirAsia Philippines is reiterating its call for travelers to stay vigilant during the upcoming peak season and report any suspicious activity. The airline’s efforts aim to provide safe, affordable travel for all, while supporting ongoing government initiatives to prevent exploitation and human trafficking.

With the holidays just around the corner, AirAsia Philippines continues to prioritize safety while offering travelers peace of mind through its partnership with the government and other stakeholders.
