Ayala Group partners with DepEd, Khan Academy to revolutionize Filipino education

The Ayala Group, in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Khan Academy, has launched a transformative public-private partnership aimed at enhancing the key competencies of Filipino learners. The partnership, formalized through a memorandum of understanding (MOU) last week, brings together Ayala Corporation, Ayala Foundation, Globe Telecom Inc., iPeople, and its affiliated schools, National Teachers College and University of Nueva Caceres.

DepEd Secretary Juan Edgardo Angara expressed pride in the partnership, highlighting the potential to address long-standing education challenges by leveraging the expertise of Ayala Group and the innovative vision of Khan Academy. “We can solve perennial challenges in education by drawing from the expertise of partners like Ayala Group and the cutting-edge vision of enterprises of the future like Khan Academy,” he said.

Khan Academy Philippines president and CEO Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine emphasized the importance of the collaboration in driving inclusive and innovative learning solutions. “By joining forces with the Ayala Group alongside DepEd, we are paving the way for innovative and inclusive learning solutions that empower Filipino students and educators alike,” she said.

The initiative focuses on strengthening students’ literacy and numeracy through Khan Academy’s globally recognized online courses. Key components of the partnership include comprehensive teacher training, the integration of Khan Academy’s learning platform in Ayala-affiliated schools, internships and fellowships, and the provision of critical digital infrastructure by Globe Telecom.

Fernando Zobel de Ayala, Ayala board member and chairman of Ayala Foundation, expressed his support for the initiative, saying, “We are delighted to support DepEd and Khan Academy in this very important Public–Private Partnership initiative to utilize the latest education technology to deliver high-quality education to many Filipino learners in public and private schools.”

This groundbreaking partnership is poised to reshape the educational landscape in the Philippines by combining cutting-edge technology, expert training, and robust infrastructure to enhance the learning experience for students nationwide.
