Project HUB: The road ahead for Metro Manila’s transport overhaul

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) hosted a key quadripartite meeting on 18 December, bringing together officials from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Quezon City Local Government Unit (LGU) to discuss progress on the ambitious Project HUB initiative. This collaborative effort, overseen by representatives from the Presidential Management Staff (PMS), is designed to ease Metro Manila’s chronic traffic woes by developing a state-of-the-art intermodal transport facility on a three-hectare GSIS property in Quezon City, with completion slated for 2026.

Presided over by GSIS president and general manager Wick Veloso, the meeting marked a significant step forward in realizing the vision outlined by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who has emphasized the need for innovative infrastructure solutions to enhance mobility and connectivity across the capital. MMDA chairman Romando Artes, DOTR ASEC Leonel Cray De Velez, PMS director Joanna Micah Eufemio, and key Quezon City officials, including assistant city administrator Alberto Kimpo and city planning head Dr. Jose Edgardo Gomez Jr., were all present to discuss milestones and next steps for 2025.

“Guided by President Marcos’ directive, we have a unique opportunity to transform the GSIS Quezon City property into a strategic transportation hub that will improve daily commutes, addressing mobility issues with innovative, inclusive and sustainable solutions,” Veloso said during the meeting.

The agenda focused on refining the terms of reference for the project, with discussions on the immediate operation of a temporary transport facility in the coming year. This interim measure will serve commuters while more detailed plans for the permanent transport hub are finalized.

“We are not just building a transport hub — we are laying the groundwork for progress and driving our nation forward,” Veloso emphasized.

All parties reaffirmed their commitment to the project, aligning with the administration’s vision for sustainable and innovative infrastructure to tackle Metro Manila’s worsening traffic problems.
