PLDT Inc. and its wireless arm Smart Communications have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the Philippines’ digital transformation, with a focus on improving government services and narrowing the digital divide. The companies have backed several initiatives aimed at enhancing public service efficiency and expanding access to digital services.
One of the key programs supported by PLDT and Smart is the Anti-Red Tape Authority’s (ARTA) Electronic Business One-Stop Shops (eBOSS), which automates the processing of business permits and clearances. To aid the nationwide rollout, PLDT and Smart are donating 100 computer units to local governments.
Both companies are also championing Executive Order No. 32, which streamlines the permitting process for telecom infrastructure. The order has cut down the time required to energize a telecom tower to just 59 days, with local governments approving 48 percent more permits from May 2022 to May 2024. This initiative is vital for PLDT and Smart as it accelerates the deployment of their network infrastructure across the country.
In addition, Smart supports the “Sana All May Internet Act” (House Bill No. 10699), which seeks to lower internet costs by removing the spectrum user fee (SUF) on Wi-Fi services. This move is expected to reduce telco expenses and increase internet accessibility for Filipinos nationwide.
Since 2019, PLDT and Smart have worked closely with various government bodies, including ARTA and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), to streamline permit processes and support nationwide infrastructure development. The companies are also backing the government’s efforts to enhance internet access in underserved areas through the “Broadband ng Masa” program.
By aligning with these government initiatives, PLDT and Smart continue to play a key role in fostering inclusive economic growth, improving digital access, and enhancing the quality of life for Filipinos.
