    Meralco, NICA strengthen cybersecurity partnership

    Manila Electric Co., the Philippines’ largest power distributor that is more popularly known as Meralco, and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), the country’s primary intelligence gathering and analysis arm, have strengthened their collaboration to enhance cybersecurity measures. 

    Meralco and NICA have committed to building a more secure environment by working together on intelligence sharing, technology transfer, and establishing long-term institutional partnerships that will ensure continuity beyond political changes.

    In a recent visit to Meralco’s headquarters, NICA officials emphasized the importance of fostering a unified intelligence community to tackle the growing risks in the digital and cyber landscape. The two organizations aim to create a framework that supports the protection of critical infrastructure, such as the power grid, from potential cyber threats.

    Meralco, listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange, serves over 7 million customers and is known for its commitment to customer service and operational excellence. The company has also been actively involved in energy sustainability and innovation, contributing significantly to the country’s economic growth and technological advancement.

    During the visit, key figures from both organizations were present: NICA Director for Cyber Operations Billie Boy De Leon, NICA Director for Cyber Threat Intelligence and Operations Office Lester Gastala, NICA Deputy Director General for Cyber and Emerging Threats Francisco Ashley Acedillo, Meralco Senior Vice President Arnel Paciano Casanova, First Vice President Rocky Bacani, and Vice President and Chief Information and Security Officer Marilene Tayag.
