PLDT entities help boost MSME growth with Smart Cart initiative

PLDT Enterprise, in collaboration with the PLDT-Smart Foundation and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), has launched the Smart Carts initiative, designed to empower Filipino micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with digital tools and resources. The initiative, which began in September 2024, aims to equip MSMEs with Smart Retailer Kits, Maya digital payment solutions, and other business-enhancing technologies.

The program recently saw the turnover of Smart Carts to four MSMEs in the National Capital Region, including businesses such as Naredo Twister Fries, Fely’s Boneless Lechon, Bee Blessings, and El Biko Kakanin/Triple E Food and Beverage Station. These carts will help streamline operations, expand market reach, and enable entrepreneurs to better serve their customers in the digital economy.

Esther O. Santos, president of PLDT-Smart Foundation, emphasized that the initiative is about more than just economic support—it’s about training and connecting MSMEs to the resources they need for sustainable growth. DTI’s role in facilitating Smart Cart turnovers and providing training on digital tools ensures that beneficiaries gain both practical resources and the knowledge necessary to thrive in today’s competitive market.

With plans to expand the initiative further across the country in 2025, the program reflects PLDT Group’s broader commitment to supporting MSMEs and promoting inclusive economic growth.
