SIA Group, Aether Fuels advance sustainable aviation fuel in partnership

Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Aether Fuels to source sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for its operations. The deal, aimed at enhancing the airline’s sustainability efforts, focuses on procuring neat SAF from Aether’s future production plants in the U.S. and Southeast Asia. The partnership will see the SAF blended with conventional jet fuel and supplied to airports served by both Singapore Airlines and its subsidiary Scoot.

Aether Fuels, a climate tech firm backed by venture fund Xora, uses waste carbon feedstock and its proprietary Aether Aurora™ technology to produce SAF more efficiently, with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 75%. The five-year agreement with SIA includes a potential extension and marks a significant step in the airline’s decarbonization strategy toward achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

SIA chief sustainability officer Lee Wen Fen highlighted the collaboration’s role in accelerating SAF adoption, while Aether CEO, Conor Madigan, expressed pride in joining forces to meet the growing demand for sustainable aviation solutions in Southeast Asia.
