The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Wednesday seized P1.2 billion worth of illicit goods, including counterfeit shoes, bags, cosmetics, and disposable vape brands, from a warehouse in Malabon. The items were found in Barangay Tanong, Malabon, following an investigation prompted by a Letter of Authority issued by BOC Commissioner Bien Rubio.
Among the seized items were unregistered disposable vapes, counterfeit luxury bags and shoes from brands such as Nike, Adidas, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci, as well as fake cosmetics and other merchandise. Customs officials expressed concern over the risks posed by these goods, which bypass proper testing and licensing, potentially endangering consumer health and safety.
BOC Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) director Verne Enciso confirmed that the warehouse was temporarily sealed, with an inventory to be conducted soon. The warehouse operators were given 15 days to present documents proving the legitimacy of the imported goods, including payment of the required duties and taxes.
Failure to comply may result in charges under the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), as well as violations of the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines. Deputy Commissioner Juvymax Uy emphasized the broader implications of counterfeit goods, urging the public to avoid fueling criminal enterprises that may also engage in money laundering and organized crime.
The BOC’s actions highlight ongoing efforts to combat smuggling and protect consumers from dangerous counterfeit products.
