PH lifts ban on poultry products from Minnesota

The Department of Agriculture (DA) has lifted the temporary ban on poultry imports from Minnesota, USA, following confirmation that the state has resolved its avian influenza outbreaks.

In a memorandum released Tuesday, the DA cited updated reports from U.S. veterinary authorities to the World Organization for Animal Health showing no new bird flu cases in Minnesota since 28 February. The lifting allows the resumption of imports of poultry meat, eggs, day-old chicks, and related products from the state, provided they meet existing import guidelines.

The United States remains a critical supplier of poultry to the Philippines. In 2024, it exported 169,226 metric tons of poultry products—excluding eggs—worth USD194.1 million, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Bureau of Animal Industry also noted that U.S. chicken meat made up over 33 percent of the country’s total chicken imports in 2024.

Agriculture officials said the lifting is vital for stabilizing domestic supply, ensuring food affordability, and protecting consumer health by securing safe and properly monitored imports.
