Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya and his wife, Akiko, attended the fashion show “Thread of Dreams,” co-hosted by BENCH/ and the Japan Foundation, Manila.
The event was supported by the Japanese Embassy and held as part of the 2026 Japan–Philippines Friendship Year, celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
BENCH/ founder Ben Chan said the idea for the project started during a meal at the ambassador’s residence. He highlighted the role of cultural exchange in strengthening understanding and giving new meaning to tradition, adding that the show reflects the friendship between Japan and the Philippines.

Ambassador Endo thanked the organizers and said the event reflects the Friendship Year theme, “Weaving the Future Together: Peace, Prosperity, Possibilities.” He stressed the importance of both nations working together and using their strengths to face shared global challenges.
The show featured three Filipino designers—Rhett Eala, Jaggy Glarino, and Joey Samson—who each presented 20 outfits. Their collections were inspired by Japan and combined Japanese and Filipino designs and materials.
