Globe names Consing chairman, honors JAZA Legacy

Globe Telecom Inc. has named Cezar P. Consing as chairman of its board, marking a leadership transition as Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala steps down after nearly three decades at the helm.

Consing was elected at the board’s organizational meeting following the company’s annual stockholders’ meeting, succeeding Zobel de Ayala, who served as chairman since 1996 and as director since 1989.

The leadership change caps a transformative era for Globe under Zobel de Ayala, widely credited with steering the company’s evolution from a legacy telecom operator into one of the Philippines’ leading digital platforms. During his tenure, Globe pursued key strategic moves, including its partnership with Singtel and acquisitions such as Isla Communications Co., Bayantel, and Vega Telecom, which expanded its market reach.

Zobel de Ayala also oversaw major investments in network and IT modernization, accelerating the shift to mobile data and digital services and positioning Globe at the forefront of the country’s telecommunications sector. These efforts helped broaden access to connectivity, enabling more Filipinos to benefit from mobile and internet services.

Beyond core telecom, Globe diversified into financial technology through GCash, now the country’s leading digital payments platform, and backed innovation through ventures such as Kickstart Ventures and 917Ventures. It also expanded into adjacent sectors, including data centers and shared services.

Zobel de Ayala championed sustainability, guiding Globe to become a recognized climate leader and among the first Philippine-listed firms with a validated net-zero roadmap.

He will continue to support Globe as chairman of Asiacom Philippines, Inc., a joint venture between Ayala Corporation and Singtel.

The board expressed its gratitude for Zobel de Ayala’s decades of service, as Consing takes on the role to lead Globe through its next phase of growth.
