Agnes C. de Jesus, chief sustainability officer of First Philippine Holdings Corporation, received the Pearl of Legacy Award for Environmental Governance from Society of Sustainability Practitioners, Inc. during the group’s fifth anniversary celebration on April 29 in Iloilo City.
Sustainability PH recognized de Jesus for her contributions to environmental governance and her efforts in promoting sustainability and social responsibility in business. The organization said her work has helped strengthen environmental policies and encouraged companies to support national sustainability goals.
In her acceptance speech, de Jesus urged sustainability advocates to continue guiding their communities and helping the country move forward. She said sustainability will play an even bigger role as environmental and social challenges become more complex.
Sustainability PH is a professional organization that supports sustainability practitioners in the Philippines through training, collaboration, and recognition programs.
FPH, part of the Lopez Group, has long promoted clean and renewable energy. In 2015, the company announced it would no longer invest in coal-fired power plants because of their contribution to climate change. Its energy unit, First Gen Corporation, now operates around 1,700 megawatts of renewable energy capacity.
Before joining FPH as chief sustainability officer in 2014, de Jesus held leadership roles at Energy Development Corporation, a renewable energy company involved in geothermal, wind, hydro, and solar power projects.
