Bank of the Philippine Islands account holders raised a collective howl in the early evening hours Friday following the latest outage of the lender’s app and online services.
The protests came in a flood, loud and indignant even as BPI promptly advised clients in an advisory posted on X, formerly Twitter, acknowledging that while the outage is being addressed as we speak, one may use one’s credit card for those with urgent needs.
“The BPI app, BPI online, is currently inaccessible. Transactions using BPI Debit Cards, and CAMs are also unavailable at this time.
“Rest assured that our team is actively working to resolve this issue as soon as possible, and we will update once available,” the lender said.
From late 2024 through May this year BPI published maintenance advisories for its app, online services, debit cards, InstaPay/PESONet transfers, ATMs, BizLink/BizKo and so-called wallet integrations, based on published reports.
Most were publicly announced windows, routine nighty maintenance or unplanned outages or intermittent events.
Elena Torrijos, vice president and head of public affairs and communications at BPI, said that as of 10:30 PM Friday, transactions using BPI debit cards, ATMs and CAMs have been restored.
“Meanwhile, we’re still working on restoring access to the BPI app and BPI online,” she said.
Some of the more frustrated BPI clients noted that the public advisory came too late and that the outage always seem to happen on a payday like today.
