MPTC ramps up road safety drive vis BiyaHero caravan

Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) stepped up its road safety campaign by bringing government agencies, transport groups, local government units, and private sector partners together for the Mission Road Safety BiyaHero Caravan, an initiative aimed at promoting responsible driving among public transport operators.

Held at One Ayala in Makati City and Victory Plaza in Caloocan City, the caravan gathered 284 jeepney, UV Express, and bus drivers from 42 transport organizations and companies for a day of training, hands-on activities, and road safety demonstrations designed to sharpen driving skills and strengthen awareness.

The initiative reflects a broader push to move road safety efforts beyond enforcement and toward driver education and behavior change, especially as traffic volumes continue to rise across major urban corridors.

“At MPTC, safety remains at the core of everything we do. Through programs like the BiyaHero Road Safety Caravan, we aim to further equip drivers with the knowledge they need to make safer decisions on the road,” said West Dionisio.

Dionisio said safer roads depend not only on infrastructure and systems but also on shared responsibility among all road users.

Participants attended sessions covering common traffic violations such as speeding, unsafe overtaking, improper lane use, distracted driving, tailgating, and overloading. The discussions were led by Joz Carlos Ordillano.

Drivers also took part in interactive activities including driving simulators, drunk-goggles challenges, and road safety quizzes designed to reinforce safer driving habits.

Beyond the training sessions, attendees received free eye screenings and prescription eyeglasses, while Easytrip personnel offered on-site RFID services.

The BiyaHero Caravan forms part of MPTC’s year-round Mission Road Safety campaign, which includes driver education programs, community engagement activities, and digital initiatives across its Luzon and Visayas toll road network as the company works to build safer travel conditions for motorists and commuters.
