The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has increased its funeral benefit from P30,000 to P50,000, effective for all deaths occurring on or after July 13, 2026.
GSIS chief Wick Veloso said the increase gives families more meaningful financial support to cover funeral costs, letting them honor their loved ones with dignity. The change benefits qualified active and former government workers, as well as eligible pensioners.
Around 21,000 to 25,000 families receive this assistance each year, and the expanded benefit will require up to Php 1.25 billion in annual funding. The one-time payment goes first to the legitimate spouse, then to the child who paid for funeral expenses, or anyone who can prove they covered the costs if no eligible spouse or child exists.
Claimants must submit the death certificate, valid ID, and other required papers. Non-spouse applicants also need proof of payment for funeral services. The adjustment aligns with the Bagong Pilipinas agenda and the President’s socioeconomic priorities. For details, visit the GSIS website or call 8-847-4747.
