Manila Water’s Cardona Plant boosts supply security amid climate risks

Manila Water’s P6-billion Cardona Water Treatment Plant in Rizal is key to securing steady water service amid El Niño and other climate challenges. Started in 2016, it uses Laguna Lake as an alternative raw water source, cutting reliance on Angat Dam. Now producing up to 100 million liters of clean water daily, it serves 800,000 local residents and supports round-the-clock supply for 7.9 million customers across the East Zone. Its special recovery system also reuses up to 6 million liters of treated waste water each day to reduce waste. As Manila Water noted, such projects diversify sources, strengthen long-term supply, and help meet growing community needs sustainably.
