The Bank of the Philippine Islands has partnered with ride-hailing platform Green GSM to make eco-friendly commuting easier and more accessible for Filipino commuters.
Through this collaboration, BPI online users can pay directly for their zero-emission taxi rides using their bank accounts. Green GSM operates a fleet powered exclusively by VinFast electric vehicles. To access the feature, commuters simply link their BPI account inside the official Green GSM app and select the bank as their preferred payment option for cashless transactions. The bank reminds users to maintain account security by only linking through the official app and keeping login credentials and one-time passwords confidential.
This integration is made possible through BPI’s open banking API capabilities, which serve over 9 million online and mobile app users by connecting financial services directly into daily digital activities. According to BPI chief financial officer and chief sustainability officer Eric Luchangco, embedding direct payments into the ride-hailing experience aligns with the bank’s goal of integrating sustainability into its core business and making green mobility convenient for everyday commuters.
The partnership also bridges the gap between transport, technology, and finance. BPI chief technology officer Alex Seminiano noted that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to creating a cleaner, smarter, and more efficient transport ecosystem through secure digital connections.
Green GSM managing director Francis Lacuna highlighted the impact of electric transport in the country, noting that the platform has completed over 5 million fully electric trips and avoided more than 6,300 tons of carbon emissions since launching in the Philippines. He added that working with strong institutional partners like BPI helps turn environmental ambitions into actionable progress for local communities.
To mark the launch of the payment integration, BPI and Green GSM are running a promotional reward program from June 1 to July 31, 2026. Commuters who pay for their trips using a linked BPI account will earn 20 GSM Green Points per completed ride, which can be redeemed for discounts on future trips.
