AC Mobility is accelerating its electric vehicle ambitions by expanding far beyond car sales, positioning itself as an integrated mobility company that combines charging infrastructure, renewable energy, financing and fleet services to make EV ownership more practical for Filipino consumers.
The strategy took center stage during the launch of the new BYD Atto 2 SUV and the refreshed Seal 5 DM-i sedan, where AC Mobility Chief Executive Officer Jaime Alfonso Zobel said the company is removing many of the barriers that have slowed EV adoption.
“Beyond putting innovative cars on the road, we are the prime mover building an end-to-end ecosystem to make the shift as easy as possible,” Zobel said.
Rather than competing solely on vehicle models, AC Mobility is building the infrastructure surrounding them. At the core of its strategy is the Philippine EV Charging Spine, a nationwide network of more than 200 charging locations that is expanding across major highways, commercial centers and urban hubs.
The initiative also leverages the broader Ayala ecosystem. ACEN provides renewable energy solutions for charging stations, Ayala Land hosts charging facilities in its developments, while BPI offers financing programs to help make EV ownership more accessible.
The company’s ambitions extend beyond private motorists.
Through its Charge Fleet platform and the Power on Wheels mobile charging service developed with Basic Energy Corp., AC Mobility is targeting commercial vehicles, including buses, trucks and corporate fleets, where electrification could deliver larger operational savings.
Zobel also highlighted the company’s partnership with Grab Philippines to support an electric taxi fleet operating around the clock, with participating drivers receiving charging credits through the EVRO app.
The broader strategy reflects the industry’s evolving economics. As electric vehicles become more mainstream, competitive advantage is increasingly shifting from selling cars to building the ecosystem that supports them.
That opportunity is growing. New energy vehicles accounted for 22.3 percent of Philippine new vehicle sales as of June, signaling rising consumer acceptance of electric and hybrid models.
As the exclusive local distributor of BYD passenger vehicles, AC Mobility is pairing new product launches with investments in charging, energy and digital services, signaling that the race to electrify Philippine transport will be won not only in showrooms, but across the entire ownership experience.
