Manila Electric Company (Meralco), headed by Manuel V. Pangilinan, is pushing ahead with improvements to its Elevated Metering Transformation (EMX) as part of ongoing efforts to modernize its power distribution system.
An evolution of the firm’s Elevated Metering Center, EMX works alongside Meralco’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure to enable remote meter reading, service disconnection and reconnection, while adding stronger safeguards for metering equipment. The system gives the utility far better oversight of its network, allowing it to detect unusual activity and power theft sooner, and to carry out field work more effectively. These upgrades help preserve the reliability of metering operations, reduce avoidable non-technical losses, and maintain consistent service for customers. As a key part of Meralco’s broader grid modernization program, EMX works with other smart grid tools to build a more efficient and resilient power network, supporting the company’s long-term goal of delivering safe, dependable electricity to its more than eight million customers.
