Manila Water keeps water losses low, ensures steady service in rainy session

Amid continuous rains in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, Manila Water maintains non-revenue water (NRW) below 15 percent and fast leak repairs to keep service reliable.

In the first half of 2026, 221 major pipe breaks were fixed within 24 hours, including 27 in June. As of June, NRW hit 13.51 percent, with a year-to-date average of 14.22 percent — among Asia’s best and matching developed-country standards.

NRW is treated water lost to leaks, illegal connections, and other causes. Since 1997, Manila Water has cut NRW from 63 percent to under 15 percent; each 1 percent drop saves 15 million liters daily. Investments in monitoring, maintenance, and quick response, plus timely customer reports, drive these results.

“Low losses come from efficiency, asset care, and technology to protect service in difficult weather,” said corporate communications head Dittie Galang. Ongoing upgrades strengthen the system for 7.9 million customers.
