RCBC joins BSP-backed Direct Debit PH payment system

Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC) is among the first banks to join Direct Debit PH, a new automated recurring payment facility championed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to modernize the country’s payments system and accelerate the shift toward a cash-lite economy.

The facility allows businesses to automatically collect recurring payments from customers’ bank accounts based on a one-time authorization, eliminating the need to initiate each transaction manually.

Martin Tirol, RCBC head of transaction banking group, said the bank’s early adoption reflects its push to stay at the forefront of payments innovation while delivering faster and more efficient services to businesses.

“This is also consistent with our strategy as a payments ecosystem builder, connecting businesses, consumers, and financial institutions through infrastructure that is secure, scalable, and interoperable,” Tirol said.

Once a customer authorizes a mandate, payments are processed automatically according to an agreed schedule. This can help businesses reduce missed due dates, improve collection efficiency, and cut the administrative work involved in managing recurring payments.

Built under the National Retail Payment System framework, Direct Debit PH also allows participating businesses to collect payments across participating banks, regardless of where their customers maintain accounts.

For corporate billers, a single customer mandate can cover collections across multiple banks, reducing the need to establish separate arrangements with individual financial institutions.

RCBC is implementing the facility through a direct system-to-system connection with the platform, further strengthening its cash management capabilities and enabling faster, seamless, and automated processing of recurring payment instructions.

“For customers, payments happen automatically on schedule once they authorize a mandate, and they retain full control at all times, including the ability to cancel or update their arrangement whenever they need to,” Tirol said.

RCBC, currently the fifth-largest privately owned bank in the Philippines, has positioned itself as a corporate cash management provider, offering integrated solutions for collections, payments, liquidity, and working capital management.

The bank said Direct Debit PH complements its digital capabilities by helping businesses simplify routine financial operations while improving cash flow visibility and collection efficiency.

Corporate billers interested in adopting the service may coordinate with their RCBC relationship managers or visit an RCBC branch for more information.
