Australian institutional investors overseeing nearly A$1.4 trillion in assets are in the Philippines this week to scout deals in energy, infrastructure, and other strategic sectors, bringing a potentially deep pool of long-term capital to the country.
Senior representatives of AustralianSuper, IFM Investors, Macquarie Asset Management, Pentagreen Capital, and Plenary Group are meeting Philippine business leaders, senior government officials, and major project sponsors during a two-day investment mission on Sept. 8 and 9.
The delegation comes as the Philippines seeks more foreign capital for infrastructure expansion and the shift toward cleaner energy, areas that require large, long-term investments.
The mission includes investors supported by the Australian government’s AUD
2-billion Southeast Asia Investment Financing Facility, administered by Export Finance Australia. The facility is designed to help Australian investors pursue projects across Southeast Asia, including the Philippines.
Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Marc Innes-Brown said the visit is part of “Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040,” an initiative aimed at deepening Australia’s economic ties with the region.
“We are seeking to facilitate a significant increase in Australian investment in the Philippines,” Innes-Brown said.
“The Philippines has ambitious plans for infrastructure, energy and economic development. We want to see more Australian investors bringing capital and expertise to help turn those ambitions into reality,” he added.
The participating firms bring experience in financing, developing, and managing large infrastructure and energy assets, potentially positioning them to participate in projects that require substantial upfront capital and long-term investment.
The visit also comes as Manila looks to diversify its sources of foreign investment and accelerate projects in power, transport, and other strategic infrastructure.
The investment mission coincides with the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Australia, giving both countries another platform to expand economic ties beyond trade and toward larger investment commitments.
