ACMobility charging network expands as BYD sales surge

ACMobility has captured nearly half of the Philippines’ open-access electric vehicle charging network as it rapidly expands infrastructure alongside the surging sales of Chinese EV brand BYD.

Department of Energy data showed ACMobility operated 222 of the country’s 492 fixed, open-access EV charging locations as of end-June, giving it a 45-percent share of charging sites.

It also accounted for 542 of 1,246 charge points nationwide, or 43.5 percent, underscoring the Ayala-led mobility group’s growing role in the country’s emerging EV infrastructure.

The expansion comes as demand for BYD vehicles accelerates. BYD Cars Philippines sold 28,399 vehicles from January to August 2026, nearly double its sales in the same period last year and already above its full-year 2025 tally of 26,122 units.

While charging infrastructure is not the only factor behind the brand’s growth, the simultaneous expansion of dealerships and charging access gives ACMobility a way to address one of the biggest hurdles to wider EV adoption — concerns over where and when vehicles can be charged.

“Our goal at ACMobility is to help drive the Philippines’ shift to electric mobility by making EV charging accessible where people live, work, play and travel,” ACMobility head of mobility infrastructure Carla Buencamino said.

The company has deployed chargers across its dealership network while partnering with fuel stations, malls, residential and office developments, restaurants, and retailers.

Its Philippine EV Spine is intended to support longer-distance EV travel across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, complementing urban charging sites.

“By making EV charging accessible to owners of all vehicle brands and types, we are optimizing our infrastructure to power the country’s growing EV community,” Buencamino said.

The strategy reflects a broader shift in the EV market, where selling more vehicles increasingly goes hand in hand with building the infrastructure needed to keep them moving.
